When the Founding Fathers forged this nation, they were willing to pledge to each other their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor (last sentence of Declaration of Independence). Theirs was a world of tyranny where the ruling class treated them as nothing more than a source of revenue. An overpowering government dictated to them their every action, and punished them when they did not obey the king's demands.
Students of history, and human nature, the founders carefully crafted the U.S. Constitution, writing it with the intention of limiting the powers of the federal government as much as possible.
Now, over two hundred years later, a tyranny has arisen in Washington D.C.
The overpowering government did not suddenly appear with Obama's administration taking the seat of power. Progressivism has been incrementally creeping into our system, and has finally progressed to the point that if we don't stop it now, we could reach a point of no return.
One can trace back the journey to socialism in American from Teddy Roosevelt, to Woodrow Wilson. Franklin Delano Roosevelt did the most damage, with Lyndon Johnson's great society also causing a fair amount of damage to our system.

The Health Care issue is one the leftists desperately wish to pass, even if it means losing their power for a season. The Democrats have wanted government-run health care since before Roosevelt. As with other entitlement programs, they know that once the system is in place, it is near impossible to remove (and they believe that once they create an institution of government health insurance, the Republicans won't have the guts to kill the system).
We have seen this happen before. Now that Social Security is a part of everyone's lives, and has been in place for many decades, it would be impossible to eliminate the system. Reagan tried, and the backlash was such that he had to settle to reforming the system slightly.
Welfare programs have done the same, now in place for so long that a culture of dependency has formed with the system.
With welfare, however, I am amazed at how its failure is not apparent to those locked into its system of enslavement. If welfare was an important tool in the "War on Poverty," then why are more people by percentage on welfare now than before? Why are the inner-cities still poverty stricken? Why are the poor still poor if the leftist programs, which are in full swing in the large metropolitan areas, are such a wonderful idea?
Such a system of entitlement numbs the human ability to strive and reach for more as an individual. The same ol' life of welfare checks and food stamps becomes a tradition, and folks settle into complacency, happy to get their welfare checks and food stamps.
And in the process, the human spirit is broken.
Welfare's goal should be to eliminate the need for its own existence, and instead its existence encourages more people to join the ranks of welfare recipients.
Now that the system has been in place for a long time, and a large number of people now depend on the system. The very consideration of ending the welfare system is met with anger, and insurmountable obstacles.
Republicans can only hope to reform such systems for the time being, with the future hope of eliminating the systems someday down the road.
Such is the danger of government run health care. Obama and friends are working frantically to get their health care legislation passed, no matter what it takes (including underhanded measures) because they know that once it is in place, it is in place for good.
If there is any such thing as immortality, on the list of things that are immortal is statist programs of entitlement.
The Republicans, in addition to their goal of taking control of Congress in November, also need to have a plan of how to eliminate the damaging programs the Democrats put in place as rapidly as possible. Without an immediate repeal of the leftist programs, the American People will quickly wind up depending on the mind-numbing, socialist programs - and the GOP will not be able to do anything about it.
This is why the Republicans must do more in November than just win.

The real question is if the Republicans are willing to pledge their lives, fortunes and honor to fight the tyranny of the left, or are they going to fold like a house of cards, and join the Democrats in a tax, spend and control mentality?
