In yet another example of government trying to dictate to its citizens what they can and can't do, lawmakers in Massachusetts are proposing to outlaw circumcision with a bill that would label the process as being genital mutilation. The bill's proposal is being considered regardless of the religious reasons for circumcision for groups like Jews, the desire of parents to utilize the practice, or the medical benefits some believe accompanies the procedure. If the proposal passes, it would make Massachusetts the first U.S. state to outlaw circumcision.
The bill calls for outlawing circumcision of males of any age except in cases of medical necessity and also outlaws all forms of circumcision or alteration of the genitals in females. The most controversial part, due to the religious aspect for Jews, is the provision that would outlaw circumcision in infant boys.
I am willing to bet, however, sex change operations are exempt. That kind of genital mutilation is acceptable to leftists.
Though a state is more than allowed by the U.S. Constitution to make the laws state legislators believe best represents the local populace, such a radical attempt to change culture, and deliver a slap in the face to religion and parental rights, is indicative of the times we seem to be entering into.
