Time Square Bomb Scare in New York City

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Thousands of tourists and theatergoers were evacuated from Times Square in New York City today because of a bomb scare. A car bomb containing explosive elements has sparked an active investigation, and is a reminder that we live in a potentially violent world.

A man was seen running from the vehicle before smoke was seen rising from a box contained within the Pathfinder, and at one time a "flash" was seen by a local firefighter. The Nissan had false license plates that belonged to a Ford.

Last December the New York Police closed Times Square for almost two hours to investigate a suspiciously parked van, which turned out to contain nothing but clothing.
