Unemployment Compensation Extended

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Two and a half years for unemployment?

With the bare minimum of votes required to avoid a filibuster, the Democrats pulled off extending unemployment benefits - or at least with the Senate vote. The House is expected to pass it on Wednesday.

How, pray tell, do you people in Washington expect to pay for it? Do you realize you are giving people more reason not to look extensively for a job? At what point does unemployment insurance become a welfare program?

Here is what is really interesting. We keep being told by the Democrats that we are in the middle of a recovery. If we are recovering, then why do they need to extend unemployment benefits? If things were getting better, then wouldn't they be telling us that people are finding jobs? Extending unemployment benefits is the Democrats way of telling you they are lying about the recovery, they have done nothing to create jobs, and that their policies are a big fat failure.

Sickening.
