Westlake Protests Bring Police in Riot Gear

By Douglas V. Gibbs

A Los Angeles Neighborhood is on the verge of erupting into violence, after a cop fatally shot a local day laborer. As the protests increase in the area, the police have arrived in riot gear, standing guard as protesters gather in the vicinity of a Westlake shopping center.

The protesters used bullhorns to chant, “assassination, assassination,” and at one moment during the protest got into a shouting and shoving match with a store security guard.

The shooting was the result, according to police, of the man wielding a knife.

The protesters claim, however, that the man was unarmed and had been killed for no reason. The protesters admit the day laborer was drunk, but claim the man from Guatemala was unable to defend himself, and was shot and killed as an innocent.

So far, no arrests have been made, and the riot gear is only a precaution.
