Democrats Work To End War In Afghanistan

By Douglas V. Gibbs

With November's election looming, the Democrats are scrambling to find a way to change the results from the slaughter by Republicans that seems to be the coming reality. They ended the combat operations in Iraq, and yet they are still reeling. They have made a concerted effort to satisfy their liberal base with other moves, such as working to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Yet they are still against the fences. In their latest politically motivated move, the Democrats are now making a great effort to end the war in Afghanistan.

The New York Times is reporting that high level talks with the Taliban, with United Nations assistance, is gearing up for a possible end to hostilities in Afghanistan. With talks between Afghan and Taliban leaders under way, and increased American diplomatic involvement, Obama and his liberal minions are hoping that these talks can end hostilities, and appease the anti-war base that has been unhappy with Obama's escalation of the war in Afghanistan.

The talks are including Taliban commanders from the highest levels of the group's leadership, who are secretly leaving their sanctuaries in Pakistan with the help of NATO troops.
