Ohio State Football Team Tattoo Scandal

By Douglas V. Gibbs

UPDATE: NCAA decides to suspend five Ohio State layers for first five games of 2011 season, a move criticized by being too lenient by not suspending them for the Sugar Bowl, which would have sent a much stronger signal.

On January 4th, 2011, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be squaring off with the 8th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. The Hogs would love a victory, which would ensure that they would enter the 2011 football season as a top ten team. However, the Razorbacks surely would not wish for the victory in the Sugar Bowl practically handed to them, but that may be exactly what is going to happen.

Ohio State is investigating allegations that several football players traded autographs for tattoos. When law enforcement entered the tattoo parlor looking into unrelated activities, they noticed the autographed items, and asked the establishment about the items. The response was that they items were traded for tattoos, a clear violation of the school's rules, and the rules of the NCAA.

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor was quick to respond by Twitter, posting: "I paid for my tattoos. GoBucks."

The university has so far provided limited information, but up to eleven players may be suspended, and will not place in the Sugar Bowl.

Team representatives have indicated that they are unaware of any NCAA investigation.
