Sexualizing Young Girls in Hollywood

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Symptoms that our society is in the midst of serious demoralization is all around us. From the battle over whether or not to let the homosexual sex perverts be allowed to serve openly in our military, to a growing sickness of other sexual perversions (pornography, pedophilia, and transgender to name a few), we are finding ourselves in a battle for the moral soul of our nation. But the latest addition to the list of symptoms of our dying morals is popping up in a way that nobody seems to be noticing.

The entertainment industry, from music to Hollywood, seems to now be fascinated with an obsession over sexualizing teenage girls.

As expected, society's pursuit of the forbidden bed, now that homosexuality is gaining more acceptance among some walks of life, has spread to the next perversion.

A report, "Tinseltown's New Target: A Study of Teen Female Sexualization on Prime-Time TV", tackles a content analysis of the most popular primetime broadcast shows among 12 to 17 year olds during the 2009-2010 TV season. The results are shocking, showing that Hollywood has an "eagerness to not only objectify and fetishize young girls, but to sexualize them in such a way that real teens are led to believe their sole value comes from their sexuality."

Parents Television Council director of communications and public education, Melissa Henson, explains that, "When teenage girls are on screen, they are more likely to be depicted in a sexual situation than [are] adult women. So for example, if there is sexual dialogue, it's more likely to involve an adult women; but if it's an actual depiction of sexual behavior, it's more likely to involve a teenaged character." And 98 percent of those incidents involving underage female characters, notes PTC, occurred outside any form of committed relationship.

Warning labels by the industry were less likely to be carried on these programs, as well, meaning that any warning to parents about the content is virtually non-existent. "We also found that teenage girls who are sexualized in these scenes were not likely to object to being sexualized -- they were likely to be complicit."

The message is clear, and dangerous. The entertainment industry is trying to teach teenage girls that it's okay for girls to be treated this way, and act this way. In fact, the message to teenage girls is that sexual behavior is expected of them."

This is why sexual perversion is so dangerous. It begins simple enough, but like any drug, but it becomes a never ending need for more and more, which includes progressing to the next forbidden step as each perversion gains acceptance.

In the end, this kind of behavior compromises the values of this nation, and ultimately plays into the hands of those that would strip us of our freedoms.

The solution? An awakening. The churches must cease their silence. Only through biblical education can our society become fully aware of the dangers, and cut off our internal destruction at the pass.
