Threat of Christmas Terrorism

One must remember that the underwear bomber was last years Islamic attempt at Christmas Day terrorism. Muslims hate Christians, so what better day to kill the infidel, then on a day set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ?

Government officials in Europe, as well as right here in the United States, have come to the same conclusion. As a result, law enforcement agencies nationwide are preparing for what might be a possible terrorist attack over the Christmas holiday.

European Officials, and Interpol, have been issuing similar warnings across Europe.

The Obama administration claims that the security measures in place are sufficient to thwart an attack. Security in all the likely places (airports, subway stations) has been stepped up, and security personnel have initiated random searches of passenger's bags.

Possible terror attacks would target places with large crowds of people, which pulls a number of locations into the realm of possibility; including transit systems, airports, shopping malls and other public places.

Our porous borders, both to the south and our border with Canada, have made entry into the United States by terrorists a breeze. The risk, according to some experts, is more from the single-person attacks who act on an individual basis, and these people tend to target symbolically important places. This is why New York and Washington DC are particularly on alert.

The motivation to carry out terrorist acts in the U.S. has increased, for the Jihadists wish to provide symbols of economic prosperity and dominance over the infidels, and specifically the Great Satan.

The danger doesn't just come from al-Qaida, and those with connections to the terrorist organization that was largely behind the 9/11 attacks.

Iran also desires to see America hit, and has supplied improvised explosive devices and the technology for them to a number of groups, including Sunnis in the Taliban.

We must also remember that Iran and Hezbollah both have a major presence in South America.

A Department of Homeland Security bulletin sent last week to law-enforcement agencies nationwide revealed authorities are worried terrorists will try carry out attacks this holiday season. The bulletin lists possible threats including car bombs, trucks ramming crowds and Mumbai-style small-arms attack – meaning attacks against soft targets, such as hotels or shopping centers.

This does not mean we will for sure see an attack during the Christmas holiday, but it does mean the likelihood has increased dramatically.
