Image is everything. Liberals treat politics no differently than a corporation treats their product lines. Democrat market their products as much as they can, but because they know that if you knew the truth you would reject them, they use every deceptive tactic they can to sneak their agenda up upon you before you are able to protest.
Creeping incrementalism, is my term for their tactics.
The strategy only alters when they think they can see the light at the end of the tunnel, as with the election of Barack Obama. Normally, progressives promise one thing, and then deliver another. They try to never make it appear that the Democrats support socialism, or that their candidates are socialists, even though the platforms they support after the election are indeed socialist in nature. The liberals are usually careful not to deliver so much socialism that the American people discover the exact nature of what they are up to, otherwise, as they did last November, the people will remove them from office.
The program of giving the American people socialism in gradual doses is claimed to be for the purpose of "preserving democracy." To do this, they realize that the agenda must be brought about step by step in a way that will not disrupt the fabric of custom, law, and mutual confidence. The gradual advancement of socialism normally faces few obstacles.
The deception is necessary because contrary to the beliefs of some of the political elite, the American people are wise to their tactics. Unsuspecting citizens that don't realize the "change" because of the nature of the gradual application is more apt to accept socialism, especially if the ruling class can ensure that the population is prepared for such changes by being bombarded with leftist propaganda in indoctrination centers called public schools.
On the surface, most people do not want socialism, and they do not wish to live under a socialist economy, so the Socialists must resort to trickery and deception through a series of lies. These tactics are necessary, they realize, in order to force socialism on the people, and in order to keep themselves in power.
If the populace realizes the nature of the socialist agenda, the Democrats must work fast to hide their weaknesses, keep their image as one they believe will be acceptable to the people, while shutting down the political discourse of the opposition.
After the November elections, where the influence of the Tea Party movement created an incredible tidal wave against the Democrats, the liberal left had to work fast. They crammed as many socialist programs as they could through the Congress during the lame duck session, and then waited for an opportunity to attack The Right, while making themselves somehow look as if they have taken some kind of high road.
Last November, Mark Penn said that Obama, and the Democrats, needs a ‘Similar Event’ to Oklahoma City to reconnect with the voters (and to assist in their "hate the Right" campaign that worked so well against George W. Bush).
With the Tucson shooting of Congresswoman Giffords by Jared Loughner, the Democrat Party got exactly what they thought they needed. It didn't matter to them that Jared Loughner was as far from a rightwing extremist as you can get. The Democrats have learned throughout their history that the power of accusation is incredible, and just accusing Palin, Beck, and the Tea Party of being guilty of causing the shooting should get them back into position to discredit and destroy any dissent against the liberal agenda.
Problem is, the American people are wise to the Democrats. The liberal leftist sheep believe the lies, but most of the people that are not progressive nutcases realize that the accusation game is nothing more than yet another propaganda ploy.
President Obama, in the hopes of convincing a few more people that the harsh political rhetoric (meaning, the right daring to disagree with the left) was to blame for Loughner's individual choice, even claimed that to avoid such tragedies in the future America needs to conduct themselves in a more civil manner.
Then the really big idea popped up.
Senator Mark Udall, Democrat out of Colorado, suggested that when President Obama comes to Capitol Hill in two weeks to deliver the State of the Union address, Republicans and Democrats in Congress need to to sit together, rather than be divided by party.
The liberal left Democrats love it. They say it could be a symbolic sign of civility, and cooperation. Imagine that! Republicans and Democrats sitting together, arm in arm, singing Cumbayah.
Wait, wasn't it healthy debate for four months in the Constitutional Convention what created this federal government in the first place? Isn't healthy debate what has made this nation great, creating innovation in our political system while checking the powers of both parties?
Image is everything, and the sad fact is that underneath this cry for civility and cooperation is not a plea of "can't we all just get along."
The liberal Democrats want to engage in what they consider to be bipartisanship. The image the left would like to portray is that everyone in Congress is just getting along. Problem is, they are lying through their teeth. By everyone participating in mixed seating during the State of the Union address, though the Democrats say it's because they are searching for political civility, the truth is that their reasoning is because otherwise the reality of the situation will be glaringly apparent.
The leftists want to merge seating at the State of the Union address so they won’t have to look like a minority because of the way the numbers work. They say they want to get rid of labels and come together in the spirit of being “Americans, not Democrats, not Republicans but Americans” so that the Republicans won't look so powerful.
Liberals know that deep down, because we are good-natured people, everybody swoons over the idea of everyone getting along. The left does not live in a world in reality, where as there is a difference of opinion, that just isn't possible.
