Tennessee: Making Sharia Law a Felony

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Islam is a fusion of church and state, and the political arm of Islam is governed under Sharia Law. As a result of the stringent requirements of people living under Sharia, Islam is incompatible with a free society. Understanding this, the State of Tennessee is considering legislation that would make it a felony to follow the Islamic Code.

Considering that there are Muslims that believe Sharia should supersede the Constitution, and therefore overrule American law, this bill in Tennessee drawn up by conservatives is the right thing to do.

Tennessee's move, which echoes an Oklahoma attempt that received considerable criticism, is the boldest legislative attempt yet to limit the Islamification of America.

Opponents of the bill see it as being an anti-Muslim bill that foments hate, when in reality it is simply an attempt to ensure that American law remains the standard in this country.

If Muslims are "peaceful" and "moderate" as they proclaim, then they should welcome this bill, for it is designed to condemn those who use Sharia as a tool for extremism. Besides, the bill, should it become the law, would also give state and local law enforcement officials a powerful counterterrorism tool.

The supporters of the measure are expecting constitutional challenges based on First Amendment Rights. However, when it comes to religion, and local affairs of governance, States have the authority to initiate laws to protect themselves against disruptive philosophies. Besides, one may consider, if the federal government was abiding by its duty to protect the states from invasion, even if that is an ideological invasion that seeks to change the native system of laws, Tennessee would not have to resort to such legislation.

At least 13 states have bills pending that would bar judges from considering Sharia in legal decisions, but none of those proposals are as strict as what Tennessee is weighing.

The proposed legislation in Tennessee is simple and to the point, in my own humble opinion. The bill simply indicates that Sharia follows the law of jihad, which calls for the violent overthrow of the Tennessee and U.S. government, and it is not an acceptable legal standard.
