As the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies played under the lights on May 1, 2011, a chant of "USA, USA" began to rise throughout the stands. In this age of technology, cell phones were buzzing with the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed by the Navy SEALS. The players, unaware of the news, wondered about the chant, looking up in wonder, as they continued the game.
One of the players got the news on his electronic device in the dugout, and shortly after the stadium's big screen displayed the homepage of Philadelphia's hometown newspaper, which relayed the news of Osama's demise to the crowd.
The game was no longer important. The score was secondary. A decade of operations came to an end.
The folks at that game will remember for a lifetime where they were when the news of Osama's death broke.
