Geert Wilders Hate Speech Trial Ends With Prosecution and Defense in Agreement

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Geert Wilders is in a hate speech trial for daring to tell the truth about Islam. He is accused of inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims with remarks including some comparing the Qur’an to Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf."

Free speech rights is the defense's final all, and the prosecutors agree. Both are calling for Geert Wilders' acquittal.

Prosecutors say Wilders' remarks may offend Muslims, but they are part of political debate and protected by freedom of speech laws.

The end of it all still lies in the hands of the all-powerful judges.
