Harvard Study: Fourth of July Conservative Holiday, Makes More Republicans

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The liberal left hates patriotism because they don't understand it. Liberals are nationalists - their love of government outweighs anything else. Big government is their god, and the will of the ruling elite trumps freedom, individuality, and the American Way.

Independence Day celebrates what this nation was created to be, not what it has become. We celebrate the independence of this nation from tyranny. The 4th is a reminder that liberty can be achieved again.

The liberals argue when we tell them they are not patriotic, but those haters of the United States desire to change our system of freedom and a free market to something more akin to the socialist failures of Europe - and that, my friends, is un-American.

Harvard University agrees.

According to the US News & World Report, Harvard University says that July 4th parades are right-wing events loaded with patriotism that leftist liberals don't even wish to be a part of. Democrats stay home, while Republican candidates use the parades as an opportunity to connect with the people. According to the Harvard study, "July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day."

I wonder if that means Democrats will be trying to outlaw Independence Day, next.

All it will take is one person to complain that the 4th of July offends them, and the politically correct government loons will be working to downplay America's Independence.

With all of these anti-American activities going on by the Democrats - you know, destroying the economy, lying about unemployment and the the reality of rising inflation, compromising morality, murdering millions of unborn babies, and taking over segments of the private sector while also using mercantilism to create a system of preference - the liberal Democrats have become worried about the Fourth of July celebrations in the United States. Independence Day festivities shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party, or at least that is what the Harvard report says.

The liberals don't care about the nation's founding, or at least not in the same way conservatives do. They feel that celebrating the founding of this nation is a Republican event. It's a conservative event that liberals don't feel welcome at, or that liberals don't care about, so they don't show up.

According to the Harvard report: "The three key findings of those attending July 4th celebrations: When done before the age of 18, it increases the likelihood of a youth identifying as a Republican by at least 2 percent. It raises the likelihood that parade watchers will vote for a Republican candidate by 4 percent. It boosts the likelihood a reveler will vote by about 1 percent and increases the chances they'll make a political contribution by 3 percent. . . the impact on political preferences is permanent, with no evidence of the effects depreciating as individuals become older."

Since liberal democrats are all about political power, and keeping that power through reelection, the Fourth of July celebration is unnerving to them. "American Patriots" is one group the liberal democrats have serious difficulties pandering to.

How can an ideology that teaches hate of the American system win over those that love this country?

They can't.

Conservatism has been successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than democrats. Patriotism goes hand in hand with values, and those two things are in line with the desires of the Founding Fathers - making the Fourth of July celebrations a conservative Republican set of events.

The findings of the Harvard report also suggests that democrats gain nothing from July 4th parades. "There is no evidence of an increased likelihood of identifying as a Democrat, indicating that Fourth of July shifts preferences to the right rather than increasing political polarization."

When leftists get together at events, it is as they did in Wisconsin - to protest their government handouts being cut. The democrats and the unions, they get together when they think the government might give them less.

True Americans, patriotic Americans, have the Fourth of July, and any other celebration of America. We wave flags, sing patriotic songs, and thank God for our fortune of being born in a country where we can be self-reliant, personally responsible, and pursue happiness freely.

To Democrats, every day is April 15th, where they can tax the public for more and more and more.

To Conservatives, every day is the Fourth of July - because we love our country.
