Raising Debt Ceiling Inevitable?

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Aside from the nine Republicans in the House who voted against the House Bill on the budget because it included raising the debt ceiling, the GOP, and many of the conservative talkers, have determined that like it or not, the debt ceiling will wind up being raised as a part of a compromise.

The thing is, this lie of a debt ceiling crisis is nothing new.

The democrats used this same "we will default if the limit isn't raised" argument in 1967 and 1979, too.

Same old playbook.

This argument has no truth in it. It is simply a bluff. The democrats are trying to manipulate public opinion by screaming the sky is falling.

A recent poll has determined that more Americans want the debt ceiling raised, than not.

How convenient that this poll suddenly appeared - and what is worse, it is a bogus poll.

It's a poll of random adults. It's not a poll of any voters. It's not a poll of likely voters or registered voters, it's a poll of random adults - and probably from a heavily populated area, or a social services line.

The debt ceiling crisis is manufactured by the democrats. Their fake polls, and media propaganda, is designed to skew the debate. The democrats claim they are calling for compromise - but they are calling for compromise because they know they are losing the debate, and don't have all the power anymore.

During the time period before the GOP gained control of the House were the democrats willing to compromise back then? Hell, no. They were trying to push through whatever they wanted. They locked the Republicans out of meetings and committees, Obama said something along the line of "we won" to shut the dissent up, and they tried to ram as much liberal bull crap through as they could.

The public is now much more informed, and we know what the democrats are up to. The public is in line with last November's election. The GOP needs to hold their ground, and NOT compromise.

Compromise what? When it comes to the economy, and spending, compromise is the worst thing they could do.

We can't afford anymore liberal insanity.

That opinion poll indicates that 39% of the people want the debt ceiling raised. We are supposed to believe that all of those voters in 2010 just suddenly changed their minds?

The democrats don't want the debt ceiling raised to pay the bills. There is plenty of revenue to service the debt. They want a debt ceiling raise for the same reason they want higher taxes: So that they can spend more.
