Benjamin Franklin on Entitlement Programs

I call Welfare: Paying the poor to remain in poverty.

Benjamin Franklin agreed with me:

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it." --Benjamin Franklin

Rather than trying to increase the number of those on government dependence, shouldn't the goal be to encourage freedom from the entitlements?

Democrats disagree. That would cut into their vote buying strategies.
