Two-Party System Reality

The two-party system is a product of human nature. I agree that the two-party system is killing us. But like it or not, it is here to stay.

I have read in the past, though I cannot remember the countries being discussed in the article, where there are so many parties that it is impossible to get a majority on anything, so nothing gets done.

The opposite extreme, where there are no parties, is an impossible scenario. As much as we would like to vote for candidates, regardless of party, simply because of what they stand for, the parties always seem to get involved.

Let's just say, hypothetically, that all parties in the United States were eliminated, and everything was based on the candidates, and their stances on the issues. I would be nice, wouldn't it? No more voting for the lesser of two evils, and the parties dictating the flow of the cesspool. But, because of human nature, for every pro there is a con, and we have this tendency to group accordingly. Or, as the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Pro and con groups form, they organize, a leadership structure forms, and boom, political parties.

Our goal, then, as conservatives, who are frustrated with the current political circus that leaves many of us feeling like there is no difference between the two major parties, is not to run to a third party, which will in turn split the vote and ensure an Obama win in the 2012 election, but to gain control of the party we have the best chance of getting back. In today's world, that party is the republican party. In other words, to take back the nation, we must take back the Republican Party.

I am not a fatalist, I do not believe it is impossible, and I don't think the good-ol'-boys are impossible to unseat.  But it is not an easy process.

Like it or not, we will always have a two-party system because there will always be, for the most part, two points of view - statism, and limited government. Sure, there will be variations of the two, and like today where the GOP has, for the most part, abandoned its conservative roots, but that is not a reason to throw up our hands and give up, or throw away our votes on a third party candidate that has no chance in Hell to win. Romney is not perfect, but without us getting behind him, our nation may very well be in danger of being changed forever by the Marxist currently occupying the White House. Obama's reelection could spell the end of the grand experiment. He is that dangerous, and temper tantrums about what the establishment dished out to us will not stop Obama, but will actually ensure he has four more years to complete his destruction of this nation.
