American Olympic Uniforms - Nationalistic, and Made in China

By Douglas V. Gibbs

With the berets, and dark colors, the nationalistic feel of these uniforms make me uneasy. Looking at this picture the protectionist nationalistic pride pushed by Nazism and communism in the Soviet Union and Communist China comes to mind. Where's the freedom and liberty in these outfits? Must they be "uniforms?"

So, I suppose it is no surprise that the uniforms were manufactured in China. The U.S. Congress is apparently appalled that they came from China. Why can't the American Olympic uniforms be made in the good ol' USA? Makes sense.

The problem may have been that for the money there were no American manufacturers that could compete. Although it would be nice if they were American-made, isn't it teetering dangerously on fascist protectionism when our lawmakers "demand" that the uniforms are made stateside?

If American companies made products that could compete, then American companies would be getting the nod.

Made in the USA? Yes, I would prefer it that way. . . but if they can't compete, China is who they went with, just like almost everything on the shelves at Wal-Mart. Oh, by the way, it was democrats behind the decision making process regarding these uniforms.
