The democrat party is unable to win in the arena of ideas. President Obama has nothing to run on, either. He has nothing from his presidency that he can offer more of that the American People will want. He doesn't win elections on his record, or on his ideas, because what he has to offer are failed policies. Even in 2008 he did not win the election on liberalism, but on the creation of a cult of personality, and a two-term long strategy by the democrats that was determined to destroy George W. Bush's character.
Bush was not the greatest president, and I was not in line with all of his policies. In fact, on the domestic side, he was quite liberal when one takes into account "No child left behind," TARP (which the liberal left had convinced everyone was necessary or else the economy would collapse, and that was an out and out lie), and the Bush prescription drug program. However, Bush was not the worst president in history, either. In fact, if you compare Obama's policies to Bush's in the sense of what the democrats complained about in regards to Bush, by their standards Obama is a far worst president.
For example:
- The democrats called Bush a war criminal for his "illegal war", of which he did consult with Congress, and they were all in favor of. Meanwhile, Obama's actions as Commander in Chief have completely disregarded Congress. He has launched military operations in Libya, accepting international okay over Congress. He has used unmanned drones to kill in countries where we don't even have permission to engage in a war effort. And he doubled down on troops in Afghanistan, which turned out to be a complete failure.
- The democrats blamed Bush for out of control federal spending, and ballooning the national debt to incredible heights. The debt rose under eight years of Bush just a bit under $5 trillion, which is not acceptable either, but not the point. Under Obama, the debt has risen to nearly $16 trillion, and that is with only three years of an Obama presidency. Though not acceptable, Bush's debt is a mere pot hole compared to Obama's Grand Canyon of deficit spending.
- The mortgage crisis was blamed on Bush, as well, despite the fact that the republicans brought to the attention of Congress that the problem was coming, and was demanding steeper regulations against the GSEs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2001 and 2003. The democrats accused the republicans of scare-mongering, and claimed there was no chance of a real estate collapse. Now, the very policies that caused the mortgage crisis, which includes government inspired sub-prime lending to persons whose credit is not loan-worthy, are being instituted again by the democrats. Also, under Obama, the number of foreclosures have skyrocketed, and his foreclosure plan has failed.
- When Bush left office the unemployment rate was 7.8%, and was below 5% much of his presidency. Under Obama the unemployment rate is over 8%, was over 10% at one point, and if you use the U-6 the rate is nearly 20%.
- The price of gasoline averaged $1.85 per gallon. Now, the price of gas if over $4.00 per gallon.
- In regards to taxes, Obama claimed he was a tax cutter. Obamacare is now being considered the greatest tax hike in history. If the democrats are able to force the Bush tax rates to expire at the end of the year, tax rates, taxes on capital gains, and on dividends, will all go up exponentially. The thing is, Obama was raising taxes on the lower incomes long before Obamacare. Mr. Obama raised taxes on lower-income people his first month in office with the cigarette tax.
In Colorado at an Obama rally, former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright recently addressed a crowd. "All of a sudden this man gets up and says, 'How long will you blame the previous administration for all of your problems?'" Albright recounted. "I said, 'Forever.'"

They have to blame Bush, even if it is nonsensical, because they have no successful policies to lean on.
