U.S. Warships Approaching Israeli Coast - On Alert

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The situation in the Middle East is escalating, and the anti-Israel direct threats are possibly being responded to by the United States. The international left believes Israel is the problem in the Middle East, and the Islamic nations know it.  The Muslim World also knows that they have nothing to fear from President Obama, and with his re-election comes opportunity to attack Israel without American retaliation, so they have chosen this moment in history to move against Israel.

Hamas has been behind a constant shelling of Israel, and the leader of Hamas is now verbally daring Israel to do something about it.  We've been ignoring the strategic reality, that things are going downhill in the Middle East thanks to Islam's radical Arab Spring, and Iran's continuing barbaric calls for war.  Turkey is calling Israel a terrorist state, and Iran has vowed to wipe Israel off the map.  With the Islamization of Egypt, Libya, and various other states in the Middle East, this has become a no-win situation for Israel, and Obama's failure to support Israel has left Israel alone in this. . . until now.

With the perceived inevitability of violence against Israel, and with a number of Americans in Israel, the Obama administration has ordered three amphibious warships with 2,500 Marines aboard back to the eastern Mediterranean to remain on standby off Israel’s shore in case they are needed to evacuate American citizens. Notice, the report does not indicate that the warships would be used to defend Israel.

As the hostilities heighten, it is becoming abundantly clear that the ceasefire many have been hoping for will not happen.  The approach of the U.S. warships also relays that the U.S. Government recognizes that an invasion against Israel may be in the works.  Israeli tanks are approaching Gaza.  An escalation appears eminent as Hamas demands that the Israeli military depart from Gaza.

Israel has been conducting airstrikes against Gaza over the last few hours as the missile attacks by Hamas against Tel Aviv has ceased, possibly due to an exhaustion of long range missiles.

The United States Navy is also maintaining three to four ships off the coast of Israel that are capable of shooting down ballistic missiles. That deployment has stretched for some months in the face of a potential ballistic threat from Iran.
