Alaska Earthquake Jolts Coast, Sparks Fears of Tsunami

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The magnitude of the 7.5 quake did indeed generate a tsunami, but not one large enough to create a need for evacuation.  The earthquake that hit Alaska's southern coast, and a large part of Canada's west coast, was a powerful one, striking at midnight, last night.

The tsunami caused small sea level changes, and the earthquake caused no reported damage.
