A February strategy session for Senator Mitch McConnell's reelection campaign included a discussion about the consideration that the opposition may be actress Ashley Judd. Somehow, liberal left blogsite "Mother Jones" obtained a recording of that session, and now McConnell's campaign is working with the FBI and local U.S. Attorney to figure out what is going on. Based on the evidence, a recording device of some kind was placed in Senator McConnell's campaign office without his consent.
With Mother Jones magazine, or some leftist group, somehow getting a recording device in McConnell's office, it smells of Watergate.
The liberal response to this has immediately been that comparing it to Watergate is a bit of a stretch, but let's remember that Watergate was considered to be not that big of a deal at first. Then, as the facts emerged, and the lies began to circulate, it ballooned into something that ended a presidency. There is a difference, though. The media hated Nixon, and was willing to do everything it could to make sure Watergate became a big deal. Today's biased leftist press doesn't have a problem with McConnell's office being bugged. As a result, though this smells of Watergate, it is possible it will never gain any traction. The media will not jump on board this. The popular culture loves Ashley Judd, too.
In fact, it is very possible the liberal left may turn this into a, "Look how mean the McConnell Camp is, preparing to go after poor ol' Ashley Judd" media moment. The recording device may wind up forgotten.
If anything becomes of this, it will be the fact that this whole bugging thing was illegal, and if pinned, the media may be forced to report the truth. . . perhaps.
Illegality, when it is committed against the GOP, is not normally a concern for the liberal left, but sometimes the mainstream media has to actually begin acting like journalists. . . sometimes.
We will see.
