Why?

A common question I am asked during the question and answer period of my talks to different groups is, “why do the Marxist/Progressives believe what they believe and try to implement these ideals when history shows such disastrous results?” This is an excellent question. I have continued to ponder this over and over. As I continue to read Karl Marx, other philosophers and pro Marxist writers and politicians, common themes are reinforced. Once I understood these beliefs reflect philosophy, it was easier to understand these people; not to accept or agree with them but to understand them. Philosophy has been defined as a search for a general understanding of values and reality by chiefly speculative rather than observational means.

Philosophy is theory. When we read different philosophies, they tell us about their concept of how man and society will evolve and how man should act toward each other in the quest to reach this evolved state of being. History is only a base to explain what should not be. And yet, history continually repeats itself. Rather than understand history and learn what mistakes to try to avoid through observational means, they ignore reality and adapt speculative means to try to invoke their theoretical utopia. For instance, the Marxist/Progressive continues to impose heavy taxes as a means of sharing the wealth. They say we should tax so we can have many different social programs. And yet history proves, heavy taxation always reduces total possible economic growth which results in higher unemployment, greater poverty and more reliance of citizens on government. Observation would say to lower taxes to increase economic growth and raise the living standard for all. Economic growth is contrary to the philosophy of the Marxist/Progressive and philosophy always trumps reality. They profess total equality and conformity, even though this results in a lower living standard for all.

We must also remember who has led these types of theoretical or speculative movements. They have been elites who consider themselves intellectually superior. These leaders been in the in academics or government. They do not participate in the real world of business, where ideas and theories can be judged by actual results. Marx never worked in the business community. The few instances he was employed was as a writer for revolutionary organizations. He was supported primarily through gifts from others and some inheritance. The primary Marxist/Progressives in the United States also did not work in the business or real world. Woodrow Wilson was in the academic world or government his whole life. Franklin Roosevelt was in government his whole life and also was born into a family with money. Obama has been in academics, community organizing and government. The people they appointed to influential positions in their administrations were also from government or the academic world.

The Marxist/Progressives envision an idealistic world that is in total harmony. The policies they support would bring about this egalitarian world of total conformity. This world is theoretical and every attempt to achieve it has ended in disaster. The modern day Marxist/Progressive believes, however, he is more brilliant than his predecessors and all others, and can successfully implement their philosophy this time. They do not understand why we do not all desire this. After all, these Marxist/Progressives know they can run our lives better than we can. This is why they do and believe what they do.
