Democrats: Snooping On Americans Okay. . . If We Do It

By Douglas V. Gibbs

When the Patriot Act was put into place, the democrats went nuts, calling George W. Bush a tyrant, and comparing him to historical figures like Adolf Hitler, and Josef Stalin.  The Patriot Act allowed the government to begin looking into communications, and technology, to enable the government to seek terrorist cells so that they could stop the terror before it went into play.  The new authorities were pushing the envelope, and created a fine line between safety, and a loss of freedoms.  The democrats were incensed by it.

Now, the democrats are in control, and President Obama's administration is snooping on Americans in ways beyond what they accused Bush of doing.  But Obama tells us that a little snooping is okay.  You can't have 100% safety, and 100% freedom, he said.

Ben Franklin once said that, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

We were also warned that the snooping by Obama was coming.  Just a few months ago Representative Maxine Waters said, "The President has put in place an organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life. That's going to be very, very powerful. That database will have information about everything on every individual on ways that it's never been done before and whoever runs for President on the Democratic ticket has to deal with that. They're going to go down with that database and the concerns of those people because they can't get around it. And he's [President Obama] been very smart. It's very powerful what he's leaving in place."

That quote followed Valerie Jarrett's just before the election in 2012, "After we win this election, it's our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don't forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress won't be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go."

As the madness escalates, Obama has disconnected himself from the scandals, saying that what goes beyond the perceived limits, it is not his fault.  To fix the problems of a huge bureaucracy snooping on everyone, he'll just add more government people to watch the government people watching the government people that are watching us. . . you know, to make sure they don't watch you too much.

The government is corrupt, and their way of fixing it is to make government bigger.

They will create committees and subcommittees to spy on each other, to ensure they aren't spying.  After all, we are being told, this is not politically motivated.

As Trey Gowdy said about the IRS, and the claim that it was non-partisan attacks that the IRS was conducting, "Your predecessor said that he wasn't sure it wasn't partisan, and that requires the listener to be as stupid as the speaker!"

This snooping business is not about terrorism.  It is about doing what they did with the IRS attacks against the TEA Party in order to suppress the conservative vote, and scare GOP donors away.  It is about eliminating their opposition, silencing their political enemies, and consolidating power under the central government.

The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism. -- Karl Marx
