President Barack Obama has put himself in a mess. He criticized George W. Bush for being a war-monger, and called Iraq an illegal war, accusing the Texan of going it alone without the blessing of Congress, or the support of the international community - even though Bush did indeed receive congressional approval (including all of the democrats that later cried about the war in Iraq), and his coalition of international nations was quite extensive. Now, with the Syria situation upon him, after threatening to go to Syria with America's military might without talking to Congress, and with pretty much everyone except France backing out, President Obama needs to figure out if he wants to go after the President of Syria, a figure who the democrats once called a reformer, and a figure that, if removed, would give way to the Syrian rebels who are closely associated with al-Qaeda, The Muslim Brotherhood, and the Taliban - the Islamists we have been at war with since 9/11.
With no national security reasons to speak of, the excuse for an attack on Syria will be strictly from a moral point of view. Assad gassed his people, and that, for many, is inexcusable, regardless of the number. Iraq gassed 5,000 Kurds in 1988 and we didn't even bat an eye, because Iraq was busy in a war against our enemy of the moment, Iran. But here, both of the parties at war are our enemy. So how is an attack justified? Especially, since a limited attack as Obama is calling for would be like poking a pit bull with a stick to get him to behave.
Either leave the situation alone, or go in and turn the government and military locations into parking lots.
It amazes me how the democrats have this knack of winding up on the wrong side of situations, over and over again, and then have to use the media to hide their idiocy.
One thing is for sure - if Congress rejects Obama's proposal to strike against Syria, his credibility, not that he had any with me, would be damaged beyond repair. Even his own stooges would begin to treat him like Jimmy Carter.
As for the media, according to Syrian sources the American Press has been lying and cheating to try to convince the world that military intervention is necessary. I don't know how credible the source is, but it wouldn't surprise me if the story was true.
