Ex-White House Staffer: Michelle Obama 'Miserable' To Work For

by JASmius

Ah, the luxury of a long career stretch - almost twenty years - working under bosses possessed of decency,  loyalty, and respect for their employees.  Before last summer, I had forgotten what it was like to languish under an arrogant, incompetent, abusive prick.

Or, in Reid Cherlin's case, imperious, narcissistic bitch:

Michelle Obama's office can be a "confining, frustrating, even miserable place to work," former White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin says, noting the first lady has an "exacting but often ambivalent leadership style" that does not make working for her easy.

"Exacting" meaning "micromanagerially abusive if you make the slightest error or displease her in any way," such as, say, failing to bow or curtsey when entering or leaving her presence.  "Ambivalent" meaning never showing any appreciation for hard work or  jobs well done or generally giving a tinker's damn about any member of her staff.

"Jealousy and discontentment have festered, as courtiers squabble over the allocation of responsibility and access to Mrs. Obama, both of which can be aggravatingly scarce," writes Cherlin in a piece for The New Republic.
Translation: She treats them like crap and they can't wait to get right back up her ass.  Sounds like "dysfunctional" doesn't begin to describe it.

"Perhaps no first lady in recent memory has entered the stately recesses of the East Wing under a higher burden of expectation than Michelle Obama," he writes. "From her earliest appearances on the 2008 campaign trail, it was clear that she possessed rare political gifts.
Which begin and end with her skin color, just like her husband.

Like Hillary Clinton before her, she was an accomplished lawyer with policy smarts. But unlike Clinton, she was also an electrifying speaker, able to translate her husband's lofty agenda into a grounded, commonsense morality."
"Accomplished lawyer with policy smarts" = politically well-connected in the Chicago Democrat mob since birth; I wouldn't be surprised if the Obama marriage wasn't quasi-royally arranged.

Once you can get past the horrific phrase "like Hillary Clinton before her," that actually raises an interesting possibility - that Barack Obama may, after all, be forced to relinquish power, not by the 22nd Amendment, or by a Second American Revolution, but by his wife's even more rabid, maniacal political ambitions.  Perhaps that will be the form the 2016 coup will take - the election still canceled, but O passing the scepter to Scheherezade on January 20, 2017 and embarking on an even more egregious leisure career.  And after her, Malia, and then Sasha, and then their children.  A literal dynasty of Marxism-Alinskyism, ruined worlds without end, hallelujah amen, one to make even North Korea's Kims exclaim, "Hey, hold on a minute, dude".  Which is most of why I can't get past the horrific phrase "like Hillary Clinton before her".  The only solace of the phrase is that Hillary! will never be president; the horror is that Moochelle will learn from her mistake of waiting so long to seize power.

In addition, the first lady is very cautious, Cherlin said, unlike her husband, who is satisfied with his ability to improvise.
I.e. her stupendous ego is brittle, whereas hubby's is impervious.  Either way, nothing is ever their fault, but her underlings have to suffer disproportionately for it.

"That mandate to be deliberate in all things has been enshrined into East Wing operating procedure," said Cherlin. "Mrs. Obama made it clear to her staff that — endless compulsory East Room receptions aside — her time was a valuable asset and requests to use it would have to meet an exceptionally high bar."

This means all her public events had to focus on a certain goal and that she would only be available for official duties a few days a week. The rest of her time is dedicated to family.
"Dedicated to family" = "goofing off".  Which I only mention because the FLOTUS-ship was turned from a ceremonial status into a de facto Cabinet level job by "Hillary Clinton before her" and The Arms has continued that new tradition.  In essence, she wants to have it both ways - be a big-wig and power-broker without actually having to do any of the work.  That way, whenever she FUBARs something she just crucifies her staff for it.

You know the old saying: "[BLEEP] always rolls downhill."  And its corollary, "It's good to be the Queen".
