Lois Lerner Continues to Refuse to Testify Regarding IRS Scandal

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Lois Lerner, shortly after the IRS scandal originally broke last year, "Pleaded the Fifth" after technically losing that opportunity by saying she had done nothing wrong - and now, to this day, refuses to testify regarding the IRS scandal about how the agency targeted conservatives, before the election, in order to suppress the republican vote.  As a result, the GOP continues to go after her, and California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa has gone so far as to say that the former IRS official Lois Lerner should be held in contempt.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said of her refusal, “at some point Lerner must testify” or be held in contempt.

Even democrats are getting sick of Lerner's antics, prompting Representative Elijah Cummings, D-Md, to shout into a turned-off microphone, "I am a member of the Congress of the United States. I am tired of this."

Cummings later clarified what he meant, saying he was “trying to accomplish what [Issa] wanted to accomplish.”  He suggested that Lerner will likely end up in court.

It has been suggested the targeting of conservatives by the IRS was political retaliation for the Citizen's United Supreme Court ruling in 2010 that allowed stated corporations are people, and can spend unlimited funds on elections or against candidates.

Lerner is not the only IRS official that could be held in contempt.  The republicans issued a subpoena for all related emails, and new IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has failed to comply.  The failure could also result in the committee holding him in contempt.

Seems to be a lot of democrats trying to hide the truth, but then I suppose that should not be a surprise from a political party with a history of deception, and habitual lying.
