BREAKING: Boston Marathon Finish Line Evacuated, Suspicious Package Found

by JASmius

It's becoming a Beantown tradition, it appears....

The Boston Police Department said Tuesday night it had taken a man into custody after two unattended backpacks were left near the Boston Marathon finish line.

The bomb squad remained on the scene, investigating the suspicious bags.
No further information about the suspect or the backpacks was immediately available. Authorities had been dispatched to the scene after the backpacks were sighted around 7 p.m.

WBZ-TV photographers at the scene said they saw a person with a backpack screaming "Boston Strong" before police cleared everyone from the area.

Witnesses told the station that the person was barefoot, wearing a long black veil and acting strange. It was unknown whether the person was taken into custody.

Boylston Street has been closed and MBTA Green Line subway service in the area has been temporarily suspended, the Boston Police Department said on Twitter.

The bomb scare came only hours after the city paused to mark the one-year anniversary of the 2013 bombing at the marathon's finish line, in which three people were killed and hundreds were wounded. Former Boston Mayor Tom Menino was joined by Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick at the ceremony.

Authorities say two brothers planned and orchestrated the attack. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died following a shootout with police several days after the bombings. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 20, has pleaded not guilty to 30 federal charges and is awaiting trial. He faces the death penalty.
