US Sending Troops To Poland Amid Tensions Over Russia

by JASmius

Just like Neville Chamberlain guaranteeing Poland's security against Germany after washing his hands of Czechoslovkia....except for the actual deployment of troops.

Well, actually it's not that far off:

The Obama administration is sending ground troops to Poland in response to Russia's moves in Ukraine, Poland’s defense minister, Tomasz Siemoniak, tells The Washington Post.

The move, he said, was agreed to as part of an expansion of the NATO presence in the region.

The New York Times, meanwhile, said the troops would participate in small exercises in Estonia as well as Poland.

Holy John Wayne, Batman!  Barack Obama is actually sending American ground troops....to eastern Europe....into harm's way....where they could literally enter into combat with Vladimir Putin's Russian hordes.  Has The One gone all Gipperesquely Napoleonic on our candy asses?

Nope:

The Poland exercise, which is to be announced next week, involves one U.S. Army company —  about 150 soldiers — and would last about two weeks. The Estonia exercise is similar, said a Western official who declined to be identified, the Times reports....

The Army exercise is far short of what Poland Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suggested earlier this month, when he said he wants NATO to deploy two combat brigades with as many as 5,000 troops.

<sigh>  One Army company isn't enough to perform the landscaping on the Black Sea dacha that Vlad is no doubt even now having constructed.  It isn't enough to even justify being described as cannon fodder.  It's like the bug hitting the windshield in the opening shot of Men In Black.

And it's only going to be there for two weeks, which means we're really not sending troops to aid our erstwhile eastern European NATO allies at all.

Yep, just like Neville Chamberlain.

Except that after Hitler invaded Poland, Chamberlain, while never actually doing anything about it, at least made a show of declaring war against the Reich.  After Putin finishes conquering Ukraine and sends his tanks rolling into the Baltic States and Poland, O won't even do that much, despite NATO treaty commitments being a binding security guarantee, unless you count more clucky taunting of the neoCzar over his "runaway isolation," and maybe embargoing Vlad's body oil imports.  With the new Black Sea dacha, not being able to show off his shiny, joggling pecs would really hit him where he lives.
