Ronald Reagan, referring to government's incredible appetite for taxation, said, "If it Moves, Tax it. If it Keeps Moving, Regulate it. And if it Stops Moving, Subsidize it."
A funny thing happened along the way to creating a better car, and seeking energy saving motors that became hybrids, and smaller cars that get more miles to the gallon - people need less gas to get around. The liberal left democrats should be happy about all of the fuel efficiency, right? Except, that means that you are paying less in fuel taxes. So, they must find a way to squeeze the money out of you somehow.
The California Legislature is looking at a voluntary program that would tax motorists for every mile they drive.
Voluntary?
Voluntary?
Remember, the income tax through the 16th Amendment was originally supposed to be voluntary. . . and temporary, to boot.
California State Senator Mark DeSaulnier, a Democrat from Concord, introduced a bill to test out the vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax because the state’s gas tax was no longer bringing in the revenue it used to due to people driving more fuel efficient vehicles.
The program exists in other liberal left States like Oregon and Washington, as well.
A number has not been decided upon, but in Oregon the "volunteers" pay 1.5 cents per mile.
In Southern California, the commutes tend to be long, as people work their way in from massive suburbia in the Inland Empire and Desert Communities to Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. Now, buying a fuel efficient car no longer saves you money, because a tax for driving per mile is on its way. And if you go on vacation, that will cost you extra, as well.

The connection to Agenda 21, also known as Sustainable Development, is eerie. Agenda 21 aims to herd people into population centers, away from rural areas, and to reduce travel out of one's region, all for the seemingly good cause of saving the planet from environmental damage caused by humans.
As for those that will try to remind us it is only a voluntary tax, let me repeat - The 16th Amendment was supposed to be voluntary, and temporary, and later became a monster through income taxation and federal withholding that has placed the IRS above the law, and an agency now being used as an enforcement arm of Obamacare, and an agency being used to target dissent such in regard to the recent scandal about how the IRS was targeting TEA Party groups.
No matter all the good the liberal left claims all of these policies represent, remember. . .
Darkness always tries to appear as an angel of light.

Just another means of getting people out of their cars and into mass transit, or on bicycles and hippety-hops. California Dems will turn Los Angeles and San Francisco into Hanoi and Saigon yet.
