Gunfight at Pakistan Airport Taliban Attempt to Hijack Plane

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Yesterday, Political Pistachio reported on a Pakistan Airport Terror Attack, where a standoff between Taliban gunmen and security forces at the international airport in Karachi resulted in at least four of the attackers dead, and a number of airport employees and security personnel injured, or dead.  Today, the truth of the situation has bubbled to the top.

The suspects had backpacks loaded with food and ammunition - a sign that the squad of highly trained Taliban fighters that attacked Pakistan's biggest airport were planning on hijacking a plane, or they expected to have to hole-up at the airport for an extended period of time.

After it was all over, the battle left seven attackers dead, three of which died after detonating their suicide-bomb belts.

The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility, claiming they did so in response to air strikes in their strongholds near the Afghan border.  Those kinds of claims always, automatically, make the liberal left in the United States claim, "See?  They attack us because of our presence."

Bad guys kill because bad guys kill, not because you dared to defend yourself, or dared to come to the aid of any of their intended victims.

The Taliban also stated in their claim of responsibility that their mission was to hijack a passenger plane.  Perhaps they planned to take it to where the missing Malaysian flight is, so that they could have two planes, with backpacks stuffed with provisions.

According to the Taliban, their goal was to damage the government they are standing against, and indicated that "The government should be ready for even worse attacks."

The totals at the airport, after all of the gunfire had finally subsided, brought the death toll to at least 27 people, including 10 Islamic terrorists.

This attack, according to Reuters, was reminiscent of a similar well-coordinated attack in 2011, where militants besieged a naval base in Karachi to avenge the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a secret U.S. special forces operation that year.

From explosions, miles away you could see smoke rising from the attack at the airport.

The terror attack was coordinated, where the terrorists wearing Airport Security Force uniforms and armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, shot their way into the airport after arriving at the cargo terminal in two mini-vans.  They broke into two groups, with one attacking a gate called Fokker to create a diversion and the other storming the cargo terminal.

In the end, the terrorists failed to hit their targets, or hijack a plane.  There is no serious damage on the airport. They didn't wear suicide vests, but instead used suicide belts, to help them along their way to visit the false prophet Muhammad in the depths of Hell.

The terrorist's plan was to make it to the nearby passenger terminal, but their advance was disrupted by the unexpectedly strong resistance of security forces including paramilitary Rangers.

The civilian death count could have been higher, but to protect passengers, they were immediately relocated from the battle zone, and away from the airport as flights were diverted.

The gunfight raged through the night, with security forces putting an end to the siege this morning.
