Conservative Republican Tim Scott Historic Win in South Carolina

by Douglas V. Gibbs

Tim Scott has been in the Senate as Jim DeMint's replacement after the longtime Senator resigned.  Voters in South Carolina, after Scott's efforts to retain his seat, have sent the conservative Republican back to the U.S. Senate.  The win is historical, because Tim Scott is the first black candidate to win a statewide race since just after the Civil War.

His seat will be up for re-election for a full term in 2016.
