Obama Hypocrisy Regarding Bypassing Congress

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Last Thursday Evening President Barack Obama announced he was going to take care of the immigration situation without Congress, taking unilateral action to ensure illegal aliens already in the country would have an easier path to legalization.

Obama's willingness to accomplish his desires, with or without Congress, has been a common theme during the Obama Presidency, from Cap and Trade to Net Neutrality to his move into Libya to modifications to the Affordable Care Act, and on and on and on.  Barack Obama has repeatedly shown us that he believes Congress to be irrelevant, and an obstacle he is willing to ignore, and circumvent. . .

Yet, during his campaign in 2008, Candidate Barack Obama said the following:

"I taught Constitutional Law for ten years.  I take the Constitution very seriously.  The biggest problems that we're facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch, and not go through Congress at all.  And that's what I intend to reverse when I'm President of the United States of America."

Was Bush bypassing Congress?  There was congressional permission to go into Iraq, and all of his domestic policies that were put into place were accomplished first, through legislation, in Congress.  Barack Obama, however, cannot say the same.

In short, Obama's accusations were unfounded, yet he has done worse than what he was accusing Bush of.

Hypocrisy in the worst way.

And more executive branch regulations are coming. . . in the thousands:

White House Quietly Releases Plans For 3,415 Regulations...

New rules requiring restaurants, stores, vending machines to post calorie content 'clearly and conspicuously'...

FDA: What's covered...
