Louisiana Christmas Eve Mall Shooting

By Douglas V. Gibbs

With apparent purpose to specifically kill his targeted victim, an armed man walked up to a shopper making a purchase at a Foot Locker at a mall in New Orleans, and fired at least three shots into the victim at point blank range.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the shooter is in custody after being apprehended several blocks from the mall.

Gun Control advocates will likely target Louisiana's relaxed open carry laws, when they report this story, which, like thirty other States, does not require a permit.  As a pro-gun advocate, I am saddened by this news, but I also understand it was not the tool in the man's hand that conducted the shooting, it was the individual in possession of the gun.  As we saw in Sydney, Australia when a gunman took hostages at a small cafe in a shopping district, strict gun laws do not keep the criminal element from obtaining firearms.  Gun laws simply reduce the likelihood that a law-abiding citizen willing to take down the gunman would be in the area when such a shooting occurs.
