Obama Undercuts South Africa On al Qaeda Hostage Negotiations, Gets Pierre Korkie Killed

by JASmius

There just had to be another shoe to drop from Saturday's doomedly heroic rescue attempt of U.S. al Qaeda hostage Luke Somers.  It wouldn't be an Obamunist operation if there wasn't treachery or bumbling involved in it somewhere.

Typically, there was some of both, and Pierre Korkie paid the price for it:

The government in Yemen, a U.S. ally, was kept informed about a South African aid group's efforts to negotiate the release of a South African hostage before he died in a U.S. raid on al-Qaida militants, the head of the aid group said Monday.

The comments by Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers, came amid questions about what officials of various governments knew, if anything, about efforts to release South African Pierre Korkie, who was said to be close to being freed even as another hostage with him, American Luke Somers, appeared to face imminent execution.

The two men were killed Saturday during a U.S.-led rescue attempt.

So what was this?  A miscommunication?  The South Africans assuming we knew about their individual secret negotiations since they notified the Yemenis about them and they believed them to be our "allies," as though any country on the planet still trusts Barack Obama?

Predictably.....

The U.S. ambassador in South Africa said the United States did not know that Sooliman and his organization believed the South African hostage was to be released Sunday under a deal struck with al-Qaida.

"Hey, nobody told us, so it's not our fault".

However....

"At all times, the Yemeni government was informed about our actions on the ground," Sooliman said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We didn't do anything in isolation from them."

So we must have known about them, even though the South Africans don't appear to want to pursue recriminations, since our abortive rescue attempt of the late Mr. Somers destroyed their efforts and got their countrymen collaterally cut down in the bargain.

Sooliman said he had considered the possibility that Yemeni authorities were talking to American allies about the case, but said he did not want to "delve" into speculation and took the Americans at their word.

"If they say they didn't know, they didn't know," he said.

I interpret that to mean, "If they did know, they'll never admit it, and the truth is we can't trust a word they say anyway, no matter what that is on any given day, so it's better to just wash our hands of those incompetent narcissists than go round and round in endless vicious mendacity circles with them.

Right on schedule.....

White House press secretary Josh Earnest declined to comment on that meeting, but reiterated that the U.S. didn't have information about the private negotiations the aid group says were underway to secure Korkie's release.

"We obviously mourn the death of Mr. Korkie in the same way that we mourn the death of Mr. Somers," he told reporters in Washington.

Yeah, Josh.  "Obviously."  Because if it really was obvious, you wouldn't be pointing out how "obvious" it is.  Besides, what really is meant to be "obvious" is "the president's resolve to do everything possible to rescue Americans who are being held hostage anywhere around the globe".  So "obvious" that you feel the incessant need to state THAT as well.

Whatever, dude.

You might need to repeat the "obvious" for Mr. Sooliman, though; I think he's passed out right next to Peppermint Patty.
