Why Does Miami Have A Muslim Assistant Police Chief?

by JASmius

Is this not an egregious real-life example of the fox guarding the chicken coop, of which Anita Najiy's refusal to put her hand over her heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance is but a symptom?:

Anita Najiy, who is believed by some to be a Muslim, stands flatly while her brothers and sisters in blue recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

In doing so, Ortiz says, she failed to exhibit courtesy and etiquette that “must be exercised when wearing a law enforcement uniform.”

Furthermore, the Miami Herald states the view of Police Major Delrish Moss, who claims Najiy was just following military code:

Police Major Delrish Moss produced a section of the conduct code for U.S. military personnel, which he says supercedes police code. It reads: “When in uniform, indoors, stand at attention, remain silent, and face the flag.”

But she isn't in the military, and wasn't wearing an armed forces uniform.  Plus I'll wager real money that at least some of her colleagues are veterans and yet didn't stand defiantly mute, arms stiffly at their sides.  Consequently, she had no reason or excuse not to do something so pro forma and costless to her as put her hand over her heart and recite the Pledge, just as her fellow officers did - unless her allegiance is to something other than the United States of America.

Javier Ortiz, the President of Miami’s Fraternal Order of Police, wasn't buying this excuse either:

“If you’re not pledging allegiance to the United States, my question is what country are you pledging allegiance to?  Anyone who isn't offended by that is not American, because when you become a U.S. citizen, you pledge allegiance to the U.S.”

Or at least, you're supposed to.  Which brings us back around to what the heck the Miami PD is doing with a Muslim as its Assistant Police Chief, and whether Anita Hajiy will do her job and duty in the event of terrorism threats and racial disturbances - entirely reasonable and logical doubts if she can't even bring herself to put her hand over her heart and recite the Pledge.

Exit question: Couldn't she have substituted "Islamic State" for "United States" under her breath?  It's not like anybody would have noticed.
