Judge Orders Marilyn Mosby To Respond To Defense Motions In Freddie Gray Case

by JASmius

Judgment Day:

Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby has until June 26th to respond to three defense motions in the high-stakes trial of six officers in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray, a judge has ordered.

Attorneys for the six Baltimore Police officers have motioned for Mosby to be removed from the case, for the case to be moved from Baltimore and for the case to be dismissed based on "prosecutorial misconduct."

The defense attorneys have argued Mosby has multiple conflicts of interest, including that her husband, City Councilman Nick Mosby, represents the area of West Baltimore where Gray was arrested....

The defense attorneys have also said Mosby improperly politicized the case through her initial news conference announcing the charges, and that their clients will not be able to receive a fair trial in Baltimore in part because of that.

Mrs. Mosby, of course, remains defiant:

Mosby has dismissed the allegations of conflict of interest and said she will not step away from the case, as she is accountable to the residents who elected her. In a previous filing in the case, Deputy State's Attorney Michael Schatzow called the defense attorneys' arguments for Mosby's removal "illogical, unsupported, frivolous, and unprecedented."

Looks like a line in the sand to me.

Now we'll see if this judge has so much as an ounce of integrity and sanity, or if he or she is in on this mockery of justice.

I, personally, am not holding my breath.
