Game-Changer: Lincoln Chaffee Drops Out, Stuns Democrat Race

by JASmius

If a tree falls over in a forest, but there's nobody around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Answer: Of course it makes a sound - quite a racket, as a matter of fact - or nobody would hear it if they were present.  Physics doesn't stop working depending upon the proximity of spectators, at least outside of quantum mechanics, anyway.

But if a candidate whose representation in the polls was less than a couple of electrons drops out of the Democrat presidential race, will anybody notice or give a damn?

Only if he calls a sparsely-attended press conference:

Former Rhode Island governor [and GOP senator] Lincoln Chafee ended his [no]-shot bid for the 2016 Democrat presidential nomination Friday, his campaign announced in a statement.

Facing long odds and slumping in the polls, Chafee decided not to run for reelection in 2014. He told CNN last month that he made that decision because he wanted to run for president.

Of course.  Wouldn't anybody who was practically chased out of their previous elective office conclude that the logical next step was to seek a higher one?

He has been one of the most aggressive candidates against frontrunner Hillary Clinton....

If a tree falls over in forest, does....oh, never mind.

....calling her out at multiple times about her 2002 vote in favor of the Iraq War.

About which nobody, not even Democrats, have cared since 2008, when it actually mattered as a campaign cudgel.

“Considering the premise for invading Iraq was based on falsehoods....

Wrong.  It was based on the best intelligence available at the time, and every other allied intelligence agency in the world concurred with it.

....and considering the ramifications we live with now from that mistake....

Wrong.  The mistake was throwing away Bush43's hard-won victory and abandoning Iraq to ISIS.  Which is to say, the mistake was electing Barack Hussein Obama in the first place.

I would argue that anybody who voted for the Iraq War should not be president and certainly should not be leading the Democrat Party,” he said in an interview with CNN.

I still say you're going to get your wish, Linc.

Too bad nobody heard a word you said.
