But it's ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that Gitmo be shut down IMMEDIATELY.  Because, "our values".  Which is a strange way to describe dhimmism and a fetish for national suicide and treason, which have, traditionally, never been among what were commonly accepted to be American "values".  I guess that's one more thing that Red Barry has "fundamentally transformed":

The number of former Guantanamo Bay prison inmates who are suspected of having returned to [the Global Jihad] doubled to twelve in the six months through January, the Obama administration said on Monday.

The increase could fuel Republican attacks on Barack Obama's plan to close the U.S. military prison in Cuba, which has come to symbolize aggressive detention practices following the September 11th, 2001 attacks and opened the United States to accusations of torture. Most detainees have been held without trial for more than a decade.

Actually, what Gitmo symbolizes is shameful, self-defeating coddling of bloodthirsty animals that should have been - and, under international law and the rules of war, are subject to being - summarily executed when all usable intelligence had been extracted from them.  The most just and efficient way of solving the problem of "holding them without trial for more than a decade".

Instead, we've turned almost all of them loose, and almost all of them have rejoined Islam's war against the West, meaning more war, more violence, more death, almost all on our side of that ledger.

And yes, that includes those released by the Bush Administration that opened Gitmo in the first place:

The ODNI figures showed that 111 of 532 prisoners released by the Republican administration of President George W. Bush are confirmed to have returned to the battlefield, with seventy-four others suspected of doing so.

And yes, I will guarantee you all that the number was much higher than 111.  Which is why none of them - not a single one - should EVER have been released, or allowed to live.  The only place to which captured jihadists should ever be remanded is a humiliating, shallow grave where they will find no "glory" and no "virgins" of any kind.

Instead, they're all gone, all the sacrifices made in capturing them in the first place were squandered, and many more graves have been and will be filled with Western civilians who would not have perished otherwise.  The lesson that should only have had to be learned once will have to be learned again, only to be again forgotten, a cycle that will only find its end when the Global Jihad wipes us out for good.

And that sounds like a lot longer process than what it is actually likely to be.
