Black privilege is the carte blanche that African-Americans have to, basically, be entirely above the law, to practice the vilest racism and discrimination, and to be able say and do anything they want, including the wildest, most viciously criminal violence against the targets of their race hatred, and get away with all of it, and indeed, to be lauded and celebrated for it. Because, slavery.
Frequently, their racism is as stupid and non sequitous as it is vile.
Take the case of Otto Warmbier, a U.S. college student who (1) was daft enough to go to North Korea under any circumstances, and (2) was even dafter to try to grab a souvenir - a hotel banner - to take home with him. After pulling the banner down, he apparently and belatedly realized that maybe it wasn't such a hot idea, as an American in an enemy police state, to commit petty theft and give the NoKos any excuse at all to grab him, so he wisely decided to leave the banner behind - but didn't put it back where he found it, leaving just as big a calling card for the NoKos as if they'd found it missing. Obviously Mr. Warmbier (is that pronounced "warm beer"?) didn't realize that if you give the "hermit kingdom" a femtometer, they'll take the cosmic diameter.
So, long story short, they arrested him, put him on "show" trial, and sentenced him to fifteen years in their gulag. Lesson from the story? Don't go to bleeping North Korea.
Evidently the Huff 'n Puffers have given #BlackLivesMatter a column in their odious publication, and as you've probably already deduced, their conclusion on young Mr. Warm Beer is that he got what he deserved because he's white:
As shocked as I am by the sentence handed down to Warmbier, I am even more shocked that a grown man, an American citizen, would not only voluntarily enter North Korea but also commit what’s been described a “college-style prank.” That kind of reckless gall is an unfortunate side effect of being socialized first as a white boy, and then as a white man in this country. Every economic, academic, legal and social system in this country has for more than three centuries functioned with the implicit purpose of ensuring that white men are the primary benefactors of all privilege. The kind of arrogance bred by that kind of conditioning is pathogenic, causing its host to develop a subconscious yet no less obnoxious perception that the rules do not apply to him, or at least that their application is negotiable… [emphases added]
Sorry, I have to pause for a moment to let the ache in my back teeth from that avalanche of obtuse irony wear off....
.....Okay, now we can continue.
I’m willing to bet my last dollar that he was aware of the political climate in that country, but privilege is a hell of a drug. The high of privilege told him that North Korea’s history of making examples out of American citizens who dare challenge their rigid legal system in any way was no match for his alabaster American privilege. When you can watch a white man who entered a theatre and killed a dozen people come out unscathed, you start to believe you’re invincible. When you see a white man taken to Burger King in a bulletproof vest after he killed nine people in a church, you learn that the world will always protect you. [emphases added]
Just as an aside, the Aurora, Colorado, shooter drew (no joke) twelve consecutive life sentences, or over three millennia in the slammer. Should he have been executed with extreme prejudice? Damn right he should. But he hardly came out "unscathed".
Is this person really suggesting that a black American college student pulling a fraternity prank in North Korea wouldn't, or shouldn't, suffer the same fate because he/she would be black? Or that Mr. Warm Beer pulled his prank because he's white, rather than because he was a dumb college f**k? What does his lack of epidermal pigmentation have remotely to do with what he did and the consequences that flowed from it?
Answer: Nothing whatsoever. She just used that story as a hook for yet another racist grievance screed:
As I’ve said, living fifteen years performing manual labor in North Korea is unimaginable, but so is going to a place I know I’m unwelcome and violating their laws. I’m a black woman though. The hopeless fear Warmbier is now experiencing is my daily reality living in a country where white men like him are willfully oblivious to my suffering even as they are complicit in maintaining the power structures which ensure their supremacy at my expense. He is now an outsider at the mercy of a government unfazed by his cries for help. I get it. [emphasis added]
So the country in which this black woman lives, ruled by a (half) black man who was elected and reelected by a majority white electorate, is "worse than North Korea," and she composes her "Black Voices" column for the HuffPo from her gulag cell, and because of that she "gets" what Otto Warmbier is and will be going through well into his thirties. Does that about some it up?
No, you don't. And if Mr. Warm Beer was black, you'd to shrieking for President War-Ender to be sending in Delta Force and the SEALs to rescue him, at minimum, and you know it. Because, being black, he'd be just as entitled to break the NoKos' laws with utter impunity and immunity as he would ours.
But I suppose that's her next column.
