How We Get Politically Screwed

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The political candidate says he or she is one of us, looks like one of us, and claims to be one of us.  We gather together to support the candidate we believe to be one of us, without realizing that out of our sight is the reality that the politician is actually there to screw us.

This truth is basically accurate with just about any of them.  So while we concentrate on democracy (elections), what are we doing the other 364 days of the year to keep the republic?  In reality, it shouldn't matter who's in office.  We are supposed to act as a check and balance against the "leadership."  After all, isn't this all supposed to be about the consent of the governed?

The political establishment is supposed to be there to serve the States, and the people.  It is not there to rule over them.  Granted, we are not supposed to be a mob-rule democracy, but we are not supposed to be an authoritarian national system (socialism?), either.

The problem is, socialists are proudly running for the Democrat nomination.  If we don't get our collective junk together, they will grab the White House. . . again.
