Drip....drip....drip....:
Barack Obama plans to send 250 more military personnel to Syria, increasing the U.S. presence on the ground there to about three hundred troops to help "fight" Islamic State jihadists, a U.S. official said on Sunday.
The deployment will come on top of fifty special operations forces whom Obama deployed to Syria last year, two U.S. officials said. One official said the announcement would come in a speech Obama plans to give in Hanover, Germany, on Monday.
The decision, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, confirms an April 1st Reuters report that the Obama administration was considering boosting the number of special operations forces in Syria in hopes of accelerating [Russia's and Syria's] gains against the Islamic State.
Ah, but have no fear, ladies and gentlemen, our warriors will only be peeling potatoes....for now:
"They're not going to be leading the fight on the ground, but they will be essential in providing the training and assisting local forces," Obama said during a speech in Hannover, Germany, that capped a weeklong trip that also took him to Saudi Arabia and Great Britain.
Which means they will not be "helping" to "fight" the Islamic State. A tacit admission that he covered with this breathtaking mendacity:
"Europe and NATO can still do more," he said. "We need to do everything in our power to stop them." [emphasis added]
Except, you know, actually fight them ourselves. Lest O start morphing into this guy....
....and actually start winning wars against his hal nabqaa aisdiqa'an in the Global Jihad.
He is, though, proving himself to be almost as adept at following Vladimir Putin's orders as will, God forbid, Donald Trump:
“Syria has been a heart-breaking situation of enormous complexity, and I don’t think there are any simple solutions,” Obama said during his visit to London which ended Sunday.
“It would be a mistake for the United States, or Great Britain, or a combination of Western states to send in ground troops and overthrow the Assad regime.
“But I do believe that we can apply international pressure to all the parties, including Russia and Iran, who, essentially, are propping up Assad, as well as those moderate oppositions that exist and may be fighting inside of Syria, to sit down at the table and try to broker a transition. [emphasis added]
Because "international pressure" has been so decisive in forcing Vlad to do our bidding up to now.
Remember "Assad must go"? That would be awfully difficult to carry out with large Russian and Iranian forces standing in the way, and our inability to defeat either one of them.
As I concluded six months ago:
Barack Obama does have a Syria policy: that the United States lose there, as part of America's self-inflicted rout from the entire Middle East. Which, in turn, fits hand-in-glove with Vladimir Putin's Middle East objectives. If he and his minions have to say "humina-humina-humina" a lot, the joke is on us, because we'll soon all see and be forced (at gunpoint) to admit that he was right all along.
Now THAT's a quagmire.
I love Mad magazine and especially Alfred P Newman, but I almost have to say the picture is an insult. Oh, by the way, I mean it is an insult to Alfred P Newman!!! LOL
