California Fires Claim Lives

Drought conditions in California has left the countryside covered with drier than normal vegetation.

Sand Fire:  So named because it is believed to have started near Sand Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.  The Sand Fire has burned 32 square miles.  1,500 residents have been evacuated.  1 death has been reported, burned to death inside his own house.  The smoke from the fire has flowed into the Los Angeles area, as well as has falling ash.

Big Sur: At the Garrapata State Park near Big Sur a fire has caused the evacuation of 1,000 homes in Palo Colorado.

Erskine Fire: The Erskine Fire is in Kern County near Bakersfield, north of the Sand Fire.  It has burned 43,460 acres and 250 homes.  Two people were confirmed to have died in the fire.  The blaze forced hundreds of evacuations while damaging 75 other homes.  About 2,500 structures have been threatened by the blaze.  A total of 2,079 firefighters have battled the fire and three suffered smoke inhalation.

Already hot conditions are accompanying the blazes.
