Shooting in Beaumont, California

As I departed this morning from my monthly breakfast meeting with the Banning-Beaumont-Cherry Valley Tea Party at the Farm's House Restaurant off Highland Springs in Banning, emergency vehicles were in a scramble.  I saw ambulances, fire trucks, Highway Patrol and Beaumont Police Cars all in action with lights and sirens blazing.  I wondered if an automobile accident had happened.

It turns out it was a shooting.

A matter of perhaps a little more than an hour after I had exited Interstate 10 on the eastbound Highland Springs offramp, a woman was shot by a suspect who is now in custody.  While the woman was waiting for the light to turn green, the shooter exited his vehicle, walked up to her car, and fired nearly a dozen rounds.

The woman survived the shooting and was hospitalized.

Police say they think the two people know each other.

"Detectives and officers are still investigating, but what is known as of right now is that this appears to be an isolated incident between the suspect and victim, whom may have known one another prior to today's shooting," Beaumont police said in a statement.

The suspect in the shooting was chased down by area CHP officers and arrested.
