Princess Leia's Heart Attack

Carrie Fisher, known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars series of movies, suffered a massive heart attack on a United Airlines flight from London to Los Angeles. Audio from the pilot indicated Carrie Fisher was 'unresponsive'. One passenger said she didn't breath for ten minutes.  An EMT administered life-saving measures while in the air for fifteen minutes. Once on the ground, waiting medical personnel rushed her through the terminal with an oxygen mask on her face.  She was then taken to a nearby hospital.

She’s currently on tour promoting her book The Princess Diarist, an intimate recollection of what really happened behind the scenes when she was filming the first Star Wars movie.

When 60-year-old Fisher arrived at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center she was in critical condition.  Carrie's brother, Todd, is said to have reported that she is now in stable condition, but Variety reports that he is saying there has been no change. “She’s in the ICU and everybody’s praying for her,” he told Variety in a phone interview. “There’s nothing new from the doctors. There’s nothing new at all. … There’s no good news or bad news.”

Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, rushed to the hospital with Fisher's beloved French bulldog, Gary.  Media also flooded the area, camping on the lawn outside.

Fisher's housekeeper, Mike Gonzalez, said, "She didn't have problems with her heart - but it could happen to anyone, even kids can have heart attacks. I'm really shocked...I've worked with her for 15 years. When they said it was a heart attack this morning I was very worried."

Fisher's mother, film legend Debbie Reynolds, 84, owns the home next door to Carrie's, and is also awaiting news of her daughter's health.  Her father was Eddie Fisher.  He died in 2010.

Carrie looked to be in full health and was busy shooting two new projects in the United Kingdom before her Friday heart attack. She was working on the Graham Norton show as well as the TV series Catastrophe. The episode she appeared on The Graham Norton Show aired on December 9.  During that episode she discussed her latest book.

Carrie was 19 when she took the role of Princess Leia in 1977's Star Wars. In the years following she battled through her own wars with drug addiction and weight loss.  In her book she also reveals she had a three month love-affair with fellow Star Wars star, Harrison Ford at the time of the original film.
