Should sports be political?

Sometimes it can be. It seemed pretty political in 1980 during the Olympics when one of the most dramatic upsets in Olympic history was viewed by the world when the underdog U.S. hockey team, made up of college players, defeated the four-time defending gold-medal winning Soviet team at the XIII Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York.

My problem with the World Cup Qualifier soccer game today is that Americans of Mexican descent are making it political.  Let's play soccer.  Have pride for your team.

My wife was born in Mexico, naturalized in 2007, and when asked about supporter "her people," she responded, "If they were my people, they would be here legally."

Immigration and the rule of law are important factors in our system of American Liberty.

Which brings to mind an old joke?

"Did you hear?  After the U.S.A. and Mexico soccer game, the players of both teams went home to rest to their houses in Los Angeles."
