Montana gets only a few tough earthquakes per century. In 1935 a series of several hundred rocked Helena. 1959 saw a 7.5 magnitude quake that killed 29, and caused millions of dollars of damage. In 2005 a 5.6 earthquake hit the city of Dillon, and caused some damage at the University of Montana Western. The latest, however, struck early Thursday Morning, a half hour after midnight, and slammed the western part of the State with a 5.8 magnitude rocker. The National Weather Service in Great Falls said on Twitter that the shaking was felt as far away as 500 miles (805 kilometers). Witnesses claim the rattler shook for about a minute and a half.
