Pope's Distortion of Global Roles

Someone told me the other day, "History is written by the winners."  I've been hearing that all my life, and the truth is, there is no truth to it. I can think of a number of instances where the losers wrote the history not to make it look like they were the winners, but to make themselves look like victims so that the new history can be used as a political weapon.

For example, everyone is convinced that the Mexican American War was a war of expansionism by the United States, and that somehow the U.S. is guilty of stealing the American Southwest from Mexico.

That's what the losers of that war want you to believe.

Prior to the war, Mexico only had three settlements north of the current border between the United States and Mexico: Santa Fe, Los Angeles, and San Jose.  The rest of the residents in the area were either former Mexicans who wanted nothing to do with Mexico, or Americans who had moved west in search of a new life in the western frontier.

In 1824 Mexico adopted a new constitution much like the American Constitution.  Mexico saw our success, and wanted to be more like us.  So, they set up a system of States, and wrote their Constitution to be like ours.  A few years later a dictator named Santa Ana ripped up the constitution and began to force an iron grip upon the Mexican population.  Mexico was thrust into a civil war and the non-Mexican territories to the north rebelled.  The Tejanos of Texas and Californianos of California sought liberation, and the United States responded.  The tyranny of Santa Ana was so bad that even the Yucatan Peninsula applied for Statehood to the United States in an attempt to get away from what Mexico was becoming.  Only the presence of slavery in the United States at the time stopped the acceptance of the Yucatan Peninsula as becoming a State.  The Southern States when the request reached Congress demanded that all new States south of the line established by the Missouri Compromise be admitted as slave states, and the Yucatan rejected slavery.

In short, the Mexican American War was not a war of expansionism, it was a war of liberation, but the losers have changed the telling of history so that the truth cannot be known.  The truth does not fit into their narrative that is calling for and demands the return of the American Southwest to Mexico.

My friend John L. Hancock, who researched the information above, calls that a "distortion of history."

What we have found is that a distortion of history, or the distortion of anything else, tends to be committed by those who align themselves with the enemies of liberty, and the proponents of socialism.

Pope Francis says that the United States of America is guilty of causing a distortion of the overall worldview, and the future vision of a new global society.

After meeting with President Donald J. Trump last May, Pope Francis told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the United States of America—and Russia, China, North Korea and Bashar al Assad's Syria—have “a distorted vision of the world"--("una visione distorta del mondo," as reported in Italian by La Repubblica).

“The danger concerns immigration,” the pope told La Repubblica, as translated by AFP. “Our main and unfortunately growing problem in the world today is that of the poor, the weak, the excluded, which includes migrants.”

“This is why the G20 worries me: It mainly hits immigrants,” Pope Francis said, according to AFP.

In the same interview, according to La Repubblica, Pope Francis said that Europe must take on a "federal structure."

"I also thought many times to this problem and came to the conclusion that, not only but also for this reason, Europe must take as soon as possible a federal structure," the pope said, according to the Google translation of the La Repubblica article.

What the Pope is calling for is globalism, and an erasure of national borders, so that the poor can travel freely to areas that they could live better, and seek better opportunities.

The reason some areas have more opportunity is because of the political system, and because they are not overwhelmed with too many people making too many demands on the system.  The further a system reaches leftward, the more likely prosperity is going to slip through its fingers.  The more they allow migrants in with ideas different than what the system is offering politically, the greater chance the system will be overwhelmed, and liberty will be stamped out.

I get it, it is the church's desire to give to the poor, clothe the naked and feed the hungry.  Let the church do that.  Those are noble things.  A government's responsibility is not supposed to be the social welfare through subsidies of the portion of a system that refuses to participate in the production needs of the society.  A government is tasked with making sure the system runs in an orderly manner, that while following the rule of law the system uses that responsibility to create a societal order that provides the security necessary for our freedoms (defense against invaders, law enforcement, emergency services, and a justice system that follows the due process of law).  What the pope is asking for is a single system of political elite ruling over the various peoples with an iron fist.  He is calling for a system that destroyed Mexico under the iron fist of Santa Ana, destroyed France after the French Revolution, destroyed the communist countries under the iron fist of the Soviet Union, has placed the European Union into economic jeopardy, and is now placing in jeopardy the union of States known as the good ol' USA.  Chaos and starvation follows such models.  Death is always the result.  Unfortunately, the Pope has a distorted view of the role of government, and the role of the church.  If we were to follow his distortion of reality, the whole world would plunge into despair and misery.
