On the Road to Sacramento

We are getting on the road to Sacramento, California any minute now.  National Congress of Racial Equality is having a press conference tomorrow, and I am a large part of the effort NCORE will be working on.  Below see the flyer for the event, and my short speech.

Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Douglas V. Gibbs, and my role with the National Congress of Racial Equality is educational outreach.  Religious Liberty is a Natural Right, and it demands protection by an informed society.

James Madison wrote, “A well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.”

Education alone is not enough.  Benjamin Franklin said, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.”

Christian ideas and values were very important intellectual influences on the Founding Fathers.  Christian principles were integral building blocks in the early foundation of this great country.

In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson penned, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

Jefferson was not referring to man’s definition of equality, he was referring to God’s definition of equality.

The Framers of the Constitution identified themselves as Christians, prayed before each session as Christians, and were influenced by Christianity in significant ways.  They knew their endeavor was supernaturally driven.  As written in the Declaration of Independence, they acted “with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, and [they] mutually pledged to each other [their] Lives, [their] Fortunes, and [their] sacred Honor.

At the center of the human condition is the reality that we are all in this thing called life together.  In an orderly society we have choices.  If we are not educated, and we do not participate in civics, our choices will be taken away from us and we will be ruled over by tyrants.  Without education, liberty cannot be maintained. 

Frederick Douglass said that “education means light and liberty.  It means the uplifting of the soul of man into the glorious light of truth, the light by which men can only be made free. To deny education to any people is one of the greatest crimes against human nature.”

National CORE will be providing educational programs left out by our current educational system so that we may spread liberty literacy, and encourage new citizens to embrace God’s gift of liberty.

Galatians 5:1, King James Version (KJV): Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
