Community Choice Aggregation: Marxism in the name of Regionalism

By Douglas V. Gibbs

A couple weeks ago I was on a panel at an NAACP Community Forum, and when a question about economics came up, in relation to local economics I said that "local control is key."  The spirit of the U.S. Constitution is localism.  Local control over local issues, and State control over State issues, and federal control over federal issues.  A community operates better when controlled locally without outside interference by centralized government agencies or departments, and without interference by regional entities like councils of governments or CCAs.

After I warned about losing local control, the Mayor Pro-Tem on the panel said, "Local control is a fallacy."

Explained how once you are in the system, you realize your ideals don't matter.  If the city is going to be able to get its hands on enough money to do what it needs to do, he instructed us, you have to play the game.

Wrong.

The problem is, cultural Marxism and establishment Marxism has everyone convinced that resistance is futile.

Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is the proposed regional program that is basically government controlled electricity.  Whenever government controls something, it always becomes rationed, the price always goes up, and innovation is always stifled.

Regionalism is a plan that is much like a co-op, where cities get together in a group, and then the governing body over the group becomes the centralized power.  The slippery slope eventually leads the centralization of power to the very top, where the organization becomes a part of the federalization of whatever it is they are involved with.  In other words, CCAs are the first step towards eventually federalizing electricity.

This kind of government control is Marxist in nature. The basic premise of communism is for the government to seize control of all means of production, including the utilities, centralizing the power over the service in order to "fairly" redistribute it.

Time, now, for you to join the fight to stop CCA.
